| | Official Tourist Information for Kvam municipality | | | | | Would you like to walk behind a waterfall without getting your feet wet? The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall is one of Norway’s most visited nature attractions. When walking along the path that runs behind the waterfall, you will get a true feeling of what a waterfall really is. | | | | | | | | | | Watch how a wooden boat is made, or maybe try making your own rope? At (Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter) the Hardanger museum warf you can see boat builders in action, try making rope or go sailing in traditional wooden boats. This unique museum in Norheimsund was in 2001 named the best tourist product in Scandinavia. | | | | | | | | | | Nature attractions At the (Gullfiskvatnet) Goldfish Lake, 5 km from Øystese, you can swim with or feed the gold fish that were introduced there in 1914. If you prefer catching fish, you can rent a boat and go fjord fishing in several places. Kvam also has plenty of marked footpaths for walks. You can easily go from the fjord to one of the several mountain peaks, and get a spectacular view. You can also go kayaking, glacier walking or play golf on one of Norway’s most beautiful golf courses. If you come in the winter time, you will find top notch ski slopes and endless trails at Kvamskogen. | | | | | | | | | | Culture attractions In Øystese you will find the Ingebrigt Vik museum and the Kabuso art house (Kunsthuset Kabuso), which contain the sculptures of one of Norway’s most prominent sculptors. Perhaps you would care to see 5000 year old rock carvings, experience how ladies bake traditional krotakaker or go to a hardanger fiddle concert in a cave in the mountain?
| | | | | | | | | | A taste of Hardanger Travelling means tasting something new. In Kvam you can get traditional krotakaker and lefser, goat meat, potato dumplings called komle, home made apple pies, lamb from Hardanger, apple juice and dangerously tasty hard cider. You can dine at a local farm restaurant, visit a goat cheese factory or get a tour of a fruit farm. During summer and autumn, this area is full of tasty fruit. You may come when the fruit trees are blossoming, when the strawberries and cherries are ripe or when there are apples and plums on the trees. In the autumn we have our own fruit and cider festival, of course. You won’t leave Kvam hungry! | | | | | | | | | | Fyksesund Landscape Park The Park is accessible from RV 7 at Rykkje and Steinstø. At the end of the fjord lies the small village of Botnen, which is only accessible by boat, travelling from Steinstø. The narrow Fykse Sound winds through the steep and impressive mountains. Activities in the Park include: hiking along well-marked paths or demanding mountain trails, with or without a guide, paddling or boat trips, visits to the local fish farm or local produce store, picking fruit and berries, delicious homemade meals, based on local ingredients, and accommodation in traditional and historic buildings. | | | | | | | | | | A time to take it easy Vacation time can be a time to do nothing.
